Proposed Events Schedule for San Diego Regional Science Olympiad Competition on February 2, 2008 (updated 10/02/07)
Proposed
Events Schedule by Time Block (updated 10/02/07)
This chart shows proposed events as they will line up for the San Diego
Regional Science Olympiad. Very useful for determining overlap in events.
Note that this does NOT include the walk-in or sign-up events that are at
the bottom of the Event Schedule. This chart includes ONLY the events for
which time periods are assigned. B1, B2 etc are the Group Assignments.
Group Assignments for February 2, 2008 (updated
11/30/07)
These groups - B1, B2, etc. - correspond to the event schedule. All the
teams, all of the students from one school are in the same group and take
the written tests at the same time. They can do the walk-in tests whenever
it suits their schedules.
Required/Allowed
Lists (updated 12/2007)
This document is meant to be a check list for coaches so that you are sure
that you have all of the things that are Required for each event in which
your students will participate. Without the Required items, they will not
be able to do the events.
Also listed are the things that are Allowed - that is, optional, permitted,
not required.
Impounds
The following devices must be IMPOUNDED on February 2, 2008
Electric Vehicle (C)
Robo-Cross (B)
Robot Ramble (C)
Scrambler (B
Trajectory (B)
Devices are impounded between 7:30 AM 8:15 AM before the beginning of the competition so that competitors cannot make changes to their devices after watching others compete. Devices will be impounded in the rooms or areas where the competitions will take place.
1. Impound before competition, in or near area where device will be tested.
- must be received between 7:30 AM - 8:15 am.
2. All devices should have team names on them.
3. Before competition starts, check each device for specifications
4. If so stated in manual, participants must wear goggles when testing their
devices.
5. There will be roped off areas. Observers are allowed only behind the
ropes. Only immediate contestants and judges are allowed to be inside the
ropes.
6. When a contestant arrives to compete at an impounded event, the Event
Captain or an Assistant Event Captain will get his/her device and hand it
to him/her for the competition. No coaching is allowed after the contestant
picks up his/her device.
The Wright Stuff (C) is not impounded. The devices are checked just before they run.
Mystery Architecture (B) is impounded after construction. The construction period for all students is from 9:05-9:55 AM. The students return when they can, to test the device.

Students must stay outside the rooms until the Event Captain is ready to have them enter and begin. While they are outside, they may be given instructions, roll calls can be done, answer sheets may be handed out.
If some students are allowed to enter early, they will cruise around and look at as many questions as possible. This would obviously not be fair. No observers are allowed in lab events unless escorted by Liz Jablecki, Charles Jablecki or Rosemary Anderson.
Students must wear the safety articles required. If they do not, they will be automatically disqualified.
Volunteers for lab events with stations are not allowed to leave until
the event is over. Years ago a volunteer at the State Competition left a
lab event and told his team what was on the test.
