Added 03/06/12 Rule clarification that will apply to our State Competition...

Question: Please clarify whether the tower's base may go across the 20 cm x 20 cm opening (triangle base, 20cm diameter circular base, or square base with 20cm diagonals) or whether the base must be totally cleared (tower base minimum square 20x20cm).
 (section: 3 / paragraph: a / sub-paragraph:  / line: 1-2)
Answer: Rule 3.a. allows Towers to be placed on the Test Base surface in any configuration as long as the loading chain is suspended within 2.5 cm of the center of the opening in the Test Base. Towers do not have to touch the top surface of the Test Base all four sides of the 20.0cm x 20.0cm.

Added 01/26/12 Information from the Coaches & Event Captain Meeting Jan. 25, 2012
Revised Score Sheet. Our event captains will give the students 15.0 Kg weight for their bridges, not 15.0 – 15.2 Kg.
The tower is allowed to deflect onto the chain as long as the tower is not otherwise failing
No impound.
Read the rules.
This year:  Scoring, 3 variables: weight held, weight of tower, height of loading block
The loading block sits:  40-70 cm above base.
The Tower does NOT have to carry the entire weight in order to be competitive.
Label and ID the devices.

Added 11/18/11 Students should check their towers against the Towers C score sheet to make sure that they have met all of the construction criteria and will meet all of the Competition parameters.

Added 10/31/11: from the Regional Director
National Rule Clarifications Towers B/C (10/17/11): Add one line, "6.c.iv. The tower height is measured to the highest tower point on which the bottom of the loading block rests."
After much discussion, I have arrived at the summary below.
1. For 2012 "tower height" should be called "the base of the loading block height", and the base of the loading block height must be ≥ 40 cm.
2. Any tower with a base of the loading block > 70 cm is scored as 70 cm.
3. The highest point of the tower structure is irrelevant since the height measurement is to the base of the loading block.
