ROCKS AND MINERALS - Division C

Teams will demonstrate their knowledge of rocks and minerals.

Added 01/26/12 Information from the Coaches & Event Captain Meeting Jan. 25, 2012
One large room divided into two parts. Each half room will have the same 10 stations.
Multiple teams from the same school will be separated from each other.
You can NOT go back to a station.
Multiple choice event.
Hardiness test, all equipment will be there.
You may bring a loupe.
Everything needs to be secured in the binder and ONE book.
Each station will be labeled with the number of samples.
Over 4 minutes 30 seconds per station.
Each station will have multiple rocks. Students will have time to work on the stations.
Identification is very important.  ID, sort and answer questions.
Time breaker, 10th station – it is fun!

List of Minerals students should know their chemical formulas, Division C ONLY

ALL of the rocks and minerals on the National List are possible parts of our Regional Competition.  In addition, for Division C only, the students are expected to know the chemical formulas for minerals marked with dots.
