Question: May a short spike be placed on top of the flat balsa wood disc to hold the
disc away from the ceiling?
(section: 3 / paragraph: a / sub-paragraph: / line: 2,3,4)
Answer: No. The balsa wood disc must be the upper most part of the helicopter that
would touch a flat ceiling. The disc can be atop a short spike, but the
spike cannot be above the disc.

Del Norte Gym Dimensions:
Estimated dimensions of DNHS gym are: Height (sloped roof) ranges from 29 feet - 49 feet (8.8 m - 14.9 m) at its peak. The dimensions of the floor space are 108 feet X 107 feet (33 m X 32.6 m).
All doors to the gym will be kept closed except for the front center entrance doors on the side next to the Food Court. The doors will be opened infrequently.

The event captain would like students who are ready to fly their helicopters to try to go to the Gym at the beginning of the time slots.
Each helicopter motor should be in a small bag that has the school and team names on it.
There will be absolutely no coaching Helicopters in the Gym. If you want to speak to your coach, do it outside.
There may be a very short time for practice flights between 7:10 – 7:30 AM.
Flight logs will contain information on motor size: width, thickness, length of the rubber band motors. Students should make sure they take their flight logs back after the logs have been examined.
Plan to fly early. This event will end at 12:30 PM.
***Between 12:00 PM and 12:30 PM doors will be opened and closed, Gravity Vehicle will be set up, and there may be multiple flights at one time.
Added 01/20/12 The Helicopters event runs from 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM in the Gym. Make sure that your students understand that the time from 12:00 – 12:30 PM will not be an optimal time to fly their helicopters. Gravity Vehicle C will start setting up in the same space and will begin Impound at 12:00 PM. The students would be wise to fly before 12:00 PM. Before Noon, the air flow and traffic in the Gym will be controlled. After Noon, it will get busy, but they can still fly until 12:30 PM.
