GRAVITY VEHICLE - Division C

Teams design, build, and test one vehicle and ramp that uses gravitational potential energy as the vehicle's sole means of propulsion to reaqch a Target Point as quickly, as accurately, and as close to their predicted time as possible.

This event requires impound.

Observers are allowed to watch this event. Observers may not approach or speak to participants while they are competing.

No coaching is allowed.  Any observer who interferes or becomes loud will be asked to leave.

You may photograph or record only devices from your child’s school.  You may photograph or record only your own child or, with advance written permission given to the head coach, children from your child’s school.
These restrictions also apply to students photographing and recording other students or devices.

EACH device MUST have the school name and the team name written permanently on the device.

Added 02/10/12 Clarifications from Nationals:
Question 1: Students must place one edge of their ramp parallel to the Start Line. The
Start Line is defined as "the inside edge of the tape." Is this referring to the edge closest to the center of the Launch Area or the edge closest to the Target Point?
(section: 4 / paragraph: b / sub-paragraph: i / line: 2)
Answer 1: The inside edge of the tape of The Start Line refers to the edge closer to
the Target Point.

Question 2: Are the competitors allowed to hold the ramp when they launch the vehicle?
(section: 5 / paragraph: h / sub-paragraph:  / line: 1)
Answer 2: Yes

Question 3: Are students allowed to use electrical components (i.e. wire) if there is
no electricity used in the device? (section: 3 / paragraph: k / sub-paragraph: iv / line: 1)
Answer 3: Yes, many materials could be considered an "electrical" component if
included in an electronic device (e.g, rubber used on wheels could also be
used to insulate wires), so it is impossible to differentiate between various materials that way. As long as the vehicle uses no electricity, then the materials are legal.
