WRITE IT / DO IT - Division B

A technical writing exercise where students write a description of a contraption and other students will attempt to recreate it using only the written description.

Added 01/13/12 Question: If we initially specify (x, y) represent coordinates  x cm to right and y cm to top in a rectangular coordinate system with origin at bottom left, from then on can we just use (5, 4) or should say (5 cm right, 4 cm top)?
Answer: If they specify first, the simplified coordinates are fine.

Added 12/14/11 Question: May the students use a coordinate system in this event?
Answer: A coordinate system is fine, as long as the students include a clarifying statement at the beginning or the first time it's used, just like you would with an abbreviation like in = inch, etc.  I think as long as the students make a clear statement as to what each of the coordinates represents, it should be fine.
So the first time, they could do (From right 3 cm, from top 2 cm, 45 degree angle to the West) and then the next time (3 cm, 2 cm, 45 deg. W).
All abbreviations, 2.c., “….must be defined either at the beginning [of the page] or when the abbreviation is first used.”
