Figure 4: Simulated cross section of the bacterium Escherichia coili is drawn at a maginification of a million times. At the top of the image is the multilayered cell wall and membrane, decorated on the exterior surface with polysaccharides. The flagellum is driven by a motor anchored in the inner membrane.
